Recently I discovered that the trick to cooking moist and flavorful meat in the crockpot is to cover it with some sort of sauce prior to cooking. My new go-to roast beef sauce is a can of plain, old, ordinary beef gravy. I spray my crockpot with cooking spray, throw in the meat, cover it with gravy, and then let it cook on low all day while I’m at work. It’s great! That is, until the day I thawed out a roast without first checking to make sure I had a can of gravy on hand. That day, I had to come up with something different.
