It's that time of year again! Time to dodge your vegetable gardening friends who are going to try to foist their excess zucchini harvest on you!
But seriously, I wish I like zucchini.

You've probably seen the Samuel L. Jackson Capitol One Shopping ads. They're usually quite amusing, but have you ever actually considered trying it? I hadn't for a long time, but then at some point, I installed the extension in Chrome, and deals just started popping up every time I shopped online! Here's an example of the latest deal I spotted using the Capitol One Shopping browser extension. I need this book for a small business entrepreneur class I'm planning to take in the fall, but the list price is $177.12!!
Look. I am all for environmentally friendly everything. I have a composter and am in the process of turning my yard into a native plant environment. I try not to overconsume-- carry my own tote bags to the store instead of using plastic bags, etc. I'll even use environmentally friendly cleaning supplies for everyday cleaning. But sometimes when you really want something clean, only chemicals will do the job.
A greasy stove filter hood is one of those instances when you gotta go for the chemicals. But I just don't like most degreasers. They smell SO BAD and often require a lot of elbow grease to get anything clean. Luckily, there is another type of cleaner that will do the job with fewer harsh odors and less elbow grease!
I recently went on a road trip with a friend of mine that included an overnight stay with one of her cousins in Colorado who made us the most amazing brioche French toast for breakfast! Now, I'm not much of a cook, and I certainly can't afford to go out and buy some fancy bread at a bakery. But I do have access to a basic bread machine at work, so I decided to give baking my own brioche a try. The next morning, I sliced up some of the homemade bread and made French toast with it!
Now, I'm just as quick to run to the internet for recipes as anyone else is, but when it comes to something basic like French toast, I go straight for my trusty old Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. I got my copy of this cookbook used at a rummage sale literally 25 years ago, and I swear by this thing. If you only have one cookbook in your kitchen, it has to be this one. I also recommend using a griddle to make this recipe.
I don't know about you, but the recent wildfire smoke that has been wafting down into the U.S. from Canada the past several months has my asthma triggered. I was looking on Amazon for an inexpensive air purifier that would be able to keep the air clean in my home, and I ended up stumbling across a comment from a customer who recommended making your own air filter using a box fan, a furnace filter, and some duct tape. Wut?
So I set about learning how to do this and found the video above. I was like, wait! You mean to tell me this is actually a thing?
A while back, my sister and I got on this meal prep kick thinking we'd save so much time and money prepping meals in advance. It actually turned out to be kind of a pain in the ass. We spent an entire day in her kitchen cooking and packaging, but once we were done, I didn't feel like we had a lot to show for our efforts. I decided I was never going to do that again, but at the same time, I thought, "Maybe I can do this on a smaller scale without making such a huge production out of it."
I'm addicted to this YouTube channel where this guy drives around looking for overgrown yards and then volunteers to clean up the mess for free. He puts the whole process on his channel, and it is so mesmerizing. Anyway, since I became a homeowner in 2020, I have often suffered from yard tool envy. This guy's tools are so cool! Like, he has the good stuff!
As much as I envy this guy's power tools, I know I have absolutely no need for that much power.
I love coming out of Bath and Body Works smelling like a spa! I used to think Bath and Body works was so out of my price range, but I went shopping there with my son's girlfriend around the holidays last year and found some great sales. Then I got on their mailing list, and now I keep getting these awesome coupons, so I get to return to Bath and Body Works regularly for a mini vacation of smelling all the yummy stuff! Sometimes I even walk away with FREE stuff!
Today’s recipe is a brand new one that I made up just this morning. It is adapted from an old recipe that incorporated a couple of cans of “cream of” soups that neither of my kids will touch. SO, I revamped the recipe to use ingredients that my kids will actually like, and we were all pleasantly surprised at the results. One of my boys actually said, “Can I have more? This stuff is really delicious!” Try it for yourself and let me know what your family thinks:
I want to know how you are able to make ends meet in this economy. Please take my poll below.
