Recently, I’ve saved a LOT of money on groceries and items for my baby nursery. Am I an extreme couponer? No! (That’s a lot of work!) Can I do pretty well at using coupons and apps to save some major cash at the register, all while expending as little energy as possible? YES! Here’s how: |
First, with Target Cartwheel, you start off with so many off allowed on your list. As your savings grows, you get more offer space given to you. I typically make my shopping list on the app by adding the offers I want to take advantage of and then I only buy the things that are on the list, typically the discounts are anywhere from 5-50% off.
They also usually have the items on some type of sale as well. Recently, they had the Target brand pasta for 5% off. They were also buy 3 get 1 free. Once you do the math, it’s like getting 1 and 9/10 of a box for free. Keep an eye out also for certain deals that will give you free gift cards for purchasing certain items. Where diapers are concerned, you can usually buy two big packs at a discounted price and get anywhere from a $5-$20 gift card free with purchase add in a coupon for $1 off per pack and the savings start to add up quickly. I also make use of my Redcard which gives me 5% off of every purchase.

My latest free gift card came from something as easy as opening up a new baby registry. As soon as you find out you’re pregnant, you want to go on the website and sign up to receive coupons for baby items. They will then send you a coupon to receive a $20 gift card free just for opening up a registry.
On top of that, they have the highest “finish out your registry” discount of any store out there. When you are 8 weeks from your due date, they will send an email with a link for coupons that you can print out and use or give to friends and family for 15% off the purchase from your registry. Most stores only give 5-10%! |
I would have to say that my most impressive purchase with Target was when I was buying larger items for my nursery. They were running a ‘biggest baby sale of the year” ad. They had different tiers of gift cards you could earn for each dollar amount you spent. I wound up buying my Pack ‘n Play, a Bumbo multi chair, the crib bedding, and a giant pack of wipes (I was $10 away from the next tier and these were $14).
I spent $200 between the sales, my coupons, and my cartwheel app. Once I was finished, I had earned $75 in free target gift cards! I then used these gift cards when they were having a diaper sale and earned another $25 gift card. |

I may not be the best at getting things 100% free, but I have figured out how to save loads of money on certain items and am very happy to share the secrets I have learned!
