Last year I spent $10 and was able to put spider webs with spiders, witches, and goblins all around my front yard. My children absolutely loved it! I prepare well in advance by buying the costumes the year before, after they all go on sale, or I ask for hand me downs. I now have a whole trunk of random costumes for the kids to choose from as well.
Then, for Halloween night itself, a couple of families join us, each bringing drinks and a side dish. For the main course, we get a few $5 pizzas from Little Caesars. Then the adventure begins as we go a few blocks south to enter into a local Halloween wonderland that is put on by several homeowners who also hand out candy to the kids. In this neighborhood, we enter into a totally free scene of haunted houses, a house dressed up as a pirate ship, and even a Pixar-created spooky scene at one of the homes. Everyone has an amazing night, and we spend nearly nothing. We get creative with our other holidays as well. We have to!
